Thinking About Getting the Yamaha EF1000iS Generator? Read Here First.
Yamaha EF1000iS Review
This compact portable inverter generator loads up to 900 watts, making it great at powering individual appliances when you’re on the move. So it’s well-suited to supplying small light sources, radio receivers, computers, microwaves or electric grills, for instance.
Great for a camping trip, boat excursion or RV.
Plus it has a handy additional 12-volt DC output too, so you can recharge 12-volt batteries too.
However, if you’re planning on running lots of equipment simultaneously, you may well need a bigger wattage generator. Worth knowing this upfront, so you’re aware of it’s limitations.
If you want to learn more about this portable generator, I suggest you take a look at the reviews on Amazon here.
Having said that, the Yamaha EF1000iS does have some great features:
- Pulse Width Modulation => ‘clean’ power output to safely operate computers and other sensitive electrical equipment
- Noise Block => glass wool construction helps reduce noise levels to just 47 – 57 decibels, which is extremely quiet.
- Runs for up to 12 hours at a time without refueling.
- Lightweight at 27 pounds (and includes carry handle)
- Dual Coil Alternator => helps reduce engine speed, noise, and fuel consumption too.
- Smart Throttle feature => engine speed automatically adjusts to load for safe operation.
Yamaha EF1000iS vs Honda EU1000i:
The closest high quality competitor for the EF1000iS in this wattage range is the Honda EU1000i. And in a side-by-side comparison they’re actually very similar.
Aside from price, where the Yamaha is marginally more expensive, the EF1000iS does edge ahead. It’s lighter, more compact, and is by far the least noisy of the two. So if portability and quiet operation are a concern for you, I recommend spending a little more and choosing the Yamaha.
Plus the Yamaha includes a reassuring 2-year warranty, so you’re completely covered for a couple of years as well.
Again, this 1000w gas-fueled generator is a good choice as long as you appreciate it won’t power all your electrical equipment all at once. But for what it does, and it’s easy portability, it’s a very solid and reliable bit of kit.

Here’s what another owner has to say about the Yamaha EF1000iS:
“I was originally planning to get the Honda EU1000i, but I did a bit of research and bought the Yamaha EF1000iS instead. A great decision! This Yamaha generator is so much better. It runs for longer, is less noisy, the engine operates at a slower rate and it actually includes the twelve-volt DC power cords (while the Honda charges extra for them). Very happy!”

Generac XP8000e Generator – 12+ Hours Running Time
After selling their portable generators to Briggs and Stratton a number of years ago, it’s great to see Generac back in the portable generator business again. They’ve always been very reliable, and the Generac XP8000E generator is one of their top performing units.
Sometimes called the Generac 5606, this XP8000E is ideally suited as a backup home generator. But it’s also suitable for outdoor events too. And with a capacity of 8,000 watts (and 12,000 surge watts), you’ll succeed in powering up multiple electrical appliances for hours at a time.

The Generac XP8000E runs on gasoline, and it’s solid steel fuel tank has a total fuel capacity of 9 gallons. The result is a long-lasting generator that delivers more than 12 hours of uninterrupted use (at ‘half-load’ output). And a built-in fuel gauge makes it very easy to see when the tank needs a refill.
Best of all, it’s incredibly easy to set up right out of the box. The ‘starter guide’ instructions are very clear – I’m sure even a young child could follow them. Once you’ve attached the wheels, added oil and inserted some fuel you’re ready to begin. And the fold-up handles and sturdy wheels make it surprisingly easy to roll this 276-pound generator wherever you need it.
The designers at Generac have obviously created the XP8000E generator to give you many years of use. All of the electrical outlets are covered to guard the working parts, and the entire generator is cradled within full frame protective tubing, so it can withstand plenty of rough handling too.
Another nice touch is that the Generac XP8000E generator includes a decent-sized 25-foot extension cable with it. So you can enjoy instant electricity without needing to hear the whirring motor at work. And you have the added peace of mind knowing it will automatically shut down when the oil runs low, protecting the generator from any overheating damage.
